Chidozie Awaziem feels he still has a good chance of going to the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the Super Eagles of Nigeria after making the Gernot Rohr’s 30-man provisional list released on Monday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Nantes defender, who has won three caps, was named in the 30 man provisional squad for Nigeria despite his poor outing against Serbia in a recent international friendly in London.
He says that he is motivated to work harder and regain the manager’ss trust when competition for places hots up in camp.
“Its a rare opportunity for me and I think that has given me the motivation to work harder and want to get in to prove that my performance against Serbia was a one-off,” Awaziem told CSN.
“I’ve been in a lot of squads in the past year but this one I must make it count. The World Cup is every player’s dream and I am happy to be in the preliminary squad. The fight is still on.
“And I know if I play to my ability I will have a good chance. It’s up to me to do that.”
Meanwhile, the centre-back is expected to return to his parent club, FC Porto at the expiration of his loan deal at Nantes.
“I settled in well at Nantes but I want to focus on making the final 23 with the Super Eagles.
“After the World Cup, a decision will be made on where next I will be playing.”
Awaziem made 23 Ligue 1 appearances for Nantes who are 10th in the table.
Nantes will face Strassbourg at home in their final league match of the season on Saturday.
