It’s sad Dele Alampasu is not making the list, and that Carl is finally out. But it’s been coming. Nice list, plus I like the fact Rohr showed he means business by just pruned down to a 30-man list, rather than the FIFA-list 35-man squad.
As for those that will not make the cut, I think it’s going to be too close to call, especially since it’s a smaller group. Everyone will fight with all he’s got and Rohr will not compromise quality for “name” or current status of player as he too has a name to protect and “sell” to the world.
Really, it’s difficult foretelling the 7 that will be dropped. I can only to an extent talk about Ajoboye being dropped in the goalkeeping department. Or all 4 could make it.
For the defence, those saying Stephen Eze probably didn’t watch CHAN. That guy was born a defender. He’s rock solid. Aina and Echiejile might be standing one leg.
In the midfield, Mikel Agu, Uche Agbo, Oghenekaro Etebo and John Ogu know they’re the ones really on trial there. Others are “sure bankers” to board the flight to Russia. Etebo might just nick it, maybe, just maybe Ogu. Yes, Ogu, packs a powerful punch in his boot. But in terms of skill and flair of a natural midfielder, he’s down in the pecking order. He’s like the Garba Lawal of today’s SE. Not very skillful, but does the dirty work and has a powerful left foot.
For the attackers, I’ll really like to watch this Lokosa guy that’s practically gatecrashing the party. But we all know it is he and Simeon Nwankwo that have to prove to Rohr that they’re up to scratch for the 2018 mundial. The other guys – barring any last minute injuries – are confirmed for the ticket to Russia.
