Klopp Focused On Brighton Clash, Not UCL Final; Backs Pep For Best Manager Award

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that his side will do everything possible to seal their spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Reds will miss out on a top four Premier League finish if they lose to Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea beat Newcastle at St. James’ Park on the last day of the season on Sunday.

The UEFA Champions League finalists are currently fourth on 72 points while Chelsea are fifth on 70 points in the EPL table.

“We need to be completely focused,” Klopp said in his press conference on Friday. “We had our awards and a lot of people wished me luck for the 26th.

“Only a couple of people wished me luck for Sunday. That is the next challenge, the only challenge.

“There are a lot of moments to praise us for but our focus is on Sunday.

“A lot of things can happen but we will try everything to make the Champions League.”

Klopp rated Liverpool’s performance this season in the Premier League very highly.

“Character, mentality, togetherness, everything is how it should be. It is not the most successful season but is a very good season in a difficult league,” the former Borussia Dortmund manager added.

“The boys pick up information and turn it into their performances. On the pitch, the plan is pretty clear and they believe in that and try to deliver. There is another big step to go.”

Klopp then picked his Manager of the Season.

“Pep Guardiola (when asked who is Manager of the Season is). He has been impressive. What a season. Unbelievable football. David Wagner and Chris Hughton should be close. Sean Dyche has done a fantastic job, Rafa at Newcastle. All three teams staying up is a massive achievement.”

And on Emre Can’s injury and contract updates, Klopp said: “Nothing new on injury or contract. He is still having treatment, that is it. You would have known if he had agreed anything. It is like it was before.”

He also spoke on the fitness of Adam Lallana.

“Adam has trained for a week. Yesterday he trained normal. He looks OK. The perfect thing would be to give him minutes and we would see if we can. He is as fit as possible. There is nothing new with anyone else.”
