Ozil, Neuer, Sane Make Germany’s Provisional World Cup Squad; Gotze, Mustafi Out

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos and Bayern Munich trio Mats Hummels, Thomas Mueller and Jerome Boateng are part of Germany’s 27-man provisional list for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The list was confirmed by FIFA on their verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.

Long-term injury absentee Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus, who missed the 2014 World Cup due to injury, are included.

Manchester City pair Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan, Paris Saint-Germain’s Julien Draxler, Sami Khedira of Juventus, Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger all made the cut.

However, 2014 World Cup final goal scorer against Argentina, Mario Gotze, was left out of the provisional squad along with the injured Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

Also, Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi, who was a member of the 2014 World Cup winning squad, was dropped.

Germany are drawn in Group F alongside Mexico, Sweden and South Korea at this year’s World Cup.

They will begin the defence of their title against Mexico on June 17.
